back in business!

Greetings once more from Thailand! For reasons unclear to us ,Eva and I haven't been able to access our old blog site. Could it be that I walked by too close to the computer and it sensed my fear?! In any case, we're back thanks to the help of some computer whiz kids at the university.
So, where to begin?---A couple of days ago, we visited another Buddhist temple ,Suan Dok ,and made an offering of a lotus flower and a lit candle and incense to the statue of Buddha inside-this to ward off all misfortunes in our lives. Outside, we asked an ancient looking monk to" read "our spirits ,I guess you'd call it. So we were invited to sit at his feet.In trying to avoid sitting in the spittoon right beside him, I leaned in too close , causing him to recoil.Nok, our amazing friend ,smoothed things over with a quick exchange in Thai and soon was translating his pronouncements. I'm not entirely sure that she didn't edit his words to spare us grief; but she said that he said that Eva had gone through a bad patch 2 years ago but that all would be well in the future. As for me, he felt that I had everything I needed in life and that I was a stable person.I almost felt dismissed as uninteresting!
For the past 2 days, Eva and I have been interviewing 51 undergrads, trying to pick out the 10 best suited to go to Ryerson University in Toronto for a 6 week exchange program this May.The main criteria is the ability to speak English and behave properly. It was a difficult job since they all wanted so badly to be chosen. Most had heard of Niagara Falls and several wanted to see snow and polar bears. I guess our Canada marketing plans can use some shaking up. We will be getting our chosen 10 ready for their trip to Canada over the next few weeks as well as helping 7 ph.d students with some English presentations they have to give abroad.
The people we work with are incredibly friendly and hospitable. They make sure we want for nothing. A van and driver are always at our disposal- today after work, the driver and 2 grad students took us to a spa where Eva and I luxuriated in a 2 hour Thai massage. (18.00§ cdn) Life is good!
Nok is taking us to Fang for the week-end. It's a few hours north of Chiang Mai and is apparently a breathtakingly beautiful town. We shall no doubt take many pictures and as soon as we, by "we" I mean Eva, figure out how to post them on this new site, we shall inundate you with evidence of our good fortune. 'Til then, we bid you adieu.
